Hackensack Riverkeeper is dedicated to preserving the beautiful Hackensack River Watershed region and the surrounding ecosystem. Hackensack Riverkeeper is comprised of trustees, full-time staff and volunteers who aim to raise awareness of pollution and other threats to the Hackensack River. This organization provides volunteer opportunities, nature programming, events and activities for the public throughout the year. All funds raised through public activities and events help support the ongoing mission of Hackensack Riverkeeper.
Hackensack Riverkeeper offers both open and guided canoe and kayak rentals at two locations: Laurel Hill County Park and Overpeck Park Kayak Center. Each affords the opportunity to explore the river, the Meadowlands and Overpeck Lake at your own pace or through a guided tour. Hackensack Riverkeeper also offers fun and educational Eco-Cruise tours aboard their specially-rigged 30-foot pontoon boat. Eco-Cruise Tours are 2 1/2 hours long and are fully-narrated by a knowledgeable guide who will teach you all about the natural and human history of the region. Other activities include bird watching, fishing and nature walks. Visit the website for more information on programs, pricing and availability.
