Visit Macculloch Hall Historical Museum to experience 19th century New Jersey history through exhibits, historic gardens and period rooms. The former home of George Macculloch, the “father” of the Morris Canal, the Museum features the nation’s largest collection of original artwork by 19th century political cartoonist Thomas Nast. Nast is known for popularizing the Republican Elephant, Democratic Donkey, and America’s image of Santa Claus. The museum offers a diverse schedule of changing exhibits which complement ten period rooms furnished with fine English and American decorative arts. Public and family programs, group tours, and a pre-school nature programs are available. Education programs include fall and spring workshop series for homeschooled children ages 7-12 years old and themed school vacation day and summer programs.
