Barnegate Light House is one of New Jersey's most recognized landmarks. Nestled on the northern tip of Long Beach Island, this was considered one of the most crucial places to change courses for coastal vessels heading to and from New York.
Inside the Lighthouse Interpretive Center, you will see the history of the lighthouse showcased along the walls. Through photos and articles, you will learn the rich history of this coastal attraction and the changing nature of the coastline and the environment around the area.
With numerous park programs, you are able to participate in free of charge. Schools and students can visit as well for a fun and interesting field trip with a 30 day notice ahead of time.
If you want to take in all the area has to offer the Maritime Forest Trail is a great idea. Dominated by Black Cherry, Sassafras, and Eastern Red Cedar trees and many more this trail is beautiful any time of the year.
