Our Wine Making Experience
My wife and I made one at The Grape Escape in Dayton New Jersey. It was actually a very lovely experience. On our first visit we mingled with guests, drink wine, ate cheese and grapes and were introduced to the winemaking process. We learned how to de-stem and crush the grapes.
I can't remember but I believe we had to go back around four times in total before we were completely finished with the process and we could take our wine home. At one of the classes there was a professional chef who made pasta for everyone. We made 4 cases of wine and we were able to make our own labels for the wine which was a lot of fun. I highly recommend this is sa fun date idea!
The best part is to, is that if you figure it out, what you're paying for the winemaking and all the wine that you're bringing home, it's almost like you're getting free entertainment because you're able to bring a product home. Make sure you take advantage of this unique activity.
The Great Escape also offers unique food events including mozzarella cheese making, how to make your own gourmet ravioli, a Sunday gravy and pass the class, an olive oil and balsamic vinegar class
Making Wine: Here is an overview of the wine making process!
Making wine at a local wine making facility or vinetard is an intricate and fascinating process that involves several steps. Here's a brief overview of the steps involved: These steps can take about 4-5 visits to your wime maning school to fully complete the process
- Grape Harvesting - The grapes are picked (or shipped in from seasonal vineyards) at the optimal time, based on the desired taste and style of the wine.
- Crushing and Pressing - The grapes are crushed and pressed to extract the juice.
- Fermentation - The juice is combined with yeast, which converts the sugar into alcohol and carbon dioxide.
- Aging - The wine is aged in barrels or tanks to mellow the flavor and impart oak or other flavors.
- Blending - The wine is blended to create the desired flavor, aroma, and color.
- Bottling - The wine is bottled, corked, and labeled for sale.
It is a bit of a labor-intensive and time-consuming process, but it is a fun activity to partake in with a loved one, friends or family members and the end result can reward you with a very cost effective delicious and complex wine selection that reflects the passion and expertise of the winemakers as well as your efforts!
