Island Surf & Sail - Try something really different. Take stand up paddleboard lessons, windsurfing lessons or kiteboarding lessons from $50 an hour. Chatsworth Cranberry Festival - The Annual festival is held every October. There are many artists and craftsmen at the festival as well as many different varieties of Cranberry sauces cranberry cookies, muffins, cakes, relishes and, juices and of course, cranberry ice cream. The Chatsworth Festival features tours of the bogs and the sorting and packing sheds, displays of the berries, antique crates, labels, farm machinery, and furniture. Franklin Mineral Museum - A very small museum that has over 4,000 mineral specimens on display in the local room, including those that are on display in the 33-foot long fluorescent display, in the fluorescent room. The museum's fluorescent display has a dazzling array of the world's most brilliant and colorful fluorescent minerals in the world.
Walk across a one-mile boardwalk over a flood plain - Kids will love exploring the mile-long boardwalk, with its 110-foot long wooden suspension bridge on a part of the Appalachian Scenic Trail, between the Pochuck and Wawayanda Mountains. See more here.
Thompson Park Zoo - There is a small animal zoo located within Thompson Park featuring deer, goats, ducks, roosters and other small caged birds. The park also has 4 Jungle Gyms for the kiddies. There are 4 tennis courts, a volleyball court, 4 basketball courts, a nice handball court, and an 18 hole disc golf course. There are also three nature trails and plenty of picnic areas with grills on a beautiful lake. The park has a great big hill which is very popular in the winter season for awesome sled rides. New additions include a dog park and horse corral. The park is open from sunrise to sunset, all year long and admission is FREE.
Touch and Mingle with Alpacas! - This unbelievable cool little farm in Green Creek, NJ (We know, whoever knew that Green Creek was an actual town in NJ!) is humbly owned and operated by Jim and Tish Carpinelli. We saved this best day trip idea for last on our list. Trust us when we say that there is NOTHING cuter and more adorable than an Alpaca in your arms. And if you bring the kids (or spouse, or grandma or grandpa or whoever!) The kids (and/or family) will forever be indebted to you. And we mean FOREVER!

The Manasquan Reservoir is the perfect outdoor day trip idea for any nature enthusiast. Set on 1,208 acres of land and water it is the perfect place in Monmouth county to go fishing, take a rowboat or kayak on the water or just walk along their 5-mile perimeter trail.
The site also has an Environmental center that looks to educate the public on wetlands ecology and wildlife and what part we can play to protect these precious ecosystems.
